How We Make a Custom Trophy from Scratch

At Artefactory, every trophy we make starts as a blank canvas. No templates, no off-the-shelf designs. Just your brief, our machines, and a whole lot of passion.

Here’s exactly how we do it.

Step 1 — The Brief

It all starts with a conversation. Whether you reach out via WhatsApp, our contact form, or social media, the first thing we want to know is: what are you celebrating?

A corporate awards night? A school competition? A sports tournament? A 40-year work anniversary? Each occasion tells us something about the trophy it deserves — the size, the materials, the tone, the finish.

We ask questions like:

How many trophies do you need?
Do you have a logo or branding to incorporate?
What names or titles need to be engraved?
Do you have a colour scheme or theme?
What’s your deadline?

No idea is too big or too small. Some of our favourite projects have started with “I don’t really know what I want, but I want it to feel special.”

Step 2 — The Design

Once we understand what you’re after, Fabrice gets to work on the design. Using CAD software and years of experience in 3D design, he creates a digital mockup of the trophy — showing you exactly what it will look like before a single piece of material is cut.

This is where the magic starts. We play with shapes, proportions, materials, and finishes until the design feels right. Wood and acrylic are our materials of choice — they combine beautifully, with the warmth of natural timber contrasting against the sharp, modern edge of engraved acrylic.

Step 3 — Cutting & Engraving

Once the design is approved, it goes to the machines. Artefactory is equipped with a professional laser engraver and CNC machine — tools that allow us to cut, engrave and shape wood and acrylic with millimetre precision.

Laser engraving burns the design directly into the surface of the material — creating crisp, permanent text and imagery that won’t fade or peel. CNC cutting allows us to create complex shapes and silhouettes that would be impossible by hand.

This is the step that never gets old. Watching a design come to life from a flat sheet of wood or acrylic — that’s why Fabrice does what he does.

Step 4 — Assembly & Finishing

Once all the pieces are cut and engraved, they’re assembled by hand. Bases are attached, components are aligned, edges are smoothed, and surfaces are finished to a high standard.

This is where the human touch really matters. No machine can replicate the care and attention that goes into the final assembly of each piece. Every trophy that leaves the Artefactory workshop has been checked, handled and finished by Fabrice himself.

Step 5 — Delivery

Your trophy is carefully packaged and delivered island-wide across Mauritius. For bulk orders, we coordinate delivery to your venue or office directly.
