ABOUT ARTEFACTORY

Built by Hand. Driven by Passion. Made Right Here in Mauritius.

Artefactory is not your average gift shop or creative studio. It is a one-man workshop built from scratch by a self-taught designer who refused to stop making things β€” even during a global pandemic. Every piece that leaves our workshop has been designed, engraved, assembled and finished by hand, with care and precision at every single step of the process.

Founded by Fabrice Permal, Artefactory combines traditional craftsmanship with modern technology β€” CNC machines, laser engravers and 3D printers β€” to create custom wood engravings, acrylic trophies, personalised gifts, moon lamps, business signage, automotive badges and much more. If you can imagine it, we can make it. And we will make it beautifully.

ABOUT ARTEFACTORY

From a Bedroom Workshop to Five-Star Hotel Clients.

What started as a lockdown experiment during Covid-19 became one of Mauritius's most creative handcraft studios. Artefactory was built piece by piece β€” literally β€” by a man who simply could not sit still.

Fabrice Permal grew up in Curepipe with a pencil permanently in hand. He drew cars on everything β€” sketchbooks, school notebooks, and famously, a family Bible and a brand-new leather sofa. His parents were not always pleased, but nothing could stop him. At thirteen, a Lego set sparked a new obsession with architecture and construction. He went on to study interior design at the Charles Telfair Institute, where he found his people β€” a community of creatives who shared his passion for design and making.

After graduating, Fabrice spent nearly a decade at a leading home improvement company, working his way from sales to CAD and 3D design specialist. He was good at his job. Genuinely good. But there was always something pulling him towards creating things with his own hands. When Covid-19 hit in 2020 and Mauritius went into lockdown, he saw an opportunity hiding inside the chaos β€” and he took it without hesitation or a formal plan.

  • Self-taught in CNC machining, laser engraving, 3D printing and CAD design
  • Graduate of the Charles Telfair Institute in Interior Design
  • Nearly a decade of professional experience in CAD and 3D design before founding Artefactory

That fresh start became Artefactory β€” a name that blends artefact, a word his mother once taught him meaning an object shaped by human hands, factory, because this is a place where things are made every single day, and art, because every piece that comes out of this workshop is created with genuine artistic intention. It is a mini-factory of objects, and a piece of Fabrice's childhood memories rolled into one. Today, Artefactory's client list includes corporate companies running awards nights, schools celebrating their students, sports clubs recognising their champions, restaurants needing bespoke signage, and five-star hotels ordering custom decorations. Every single order β€” whether it is one personalised keychain or a full run of fifty trophies β€” is handled by Fabrice himself, with the same level of care and attention he brought to that very first piece he ever made.

ABOUT ARTEFACTORY

Craft Has a Future. Artefactory Is Proving It Every Day.

Fabrice believes that handcrafted work will never go out of style β€” especially when it is backed by the right tools, the right mindset, and a genuine passion for making things that matter.

At Artefactory, we do not choose between tradition and technology. We use both. CNC machines allow us to cut and shape wood and acrylic with millimetre precision. Laser engravers burn designs permanently into surfaces β€” crisp, clean, and built to last. 3D printers bring sculptural ideas to life in materials that would be impossible to work by hand. And behind every machine, there is Fabrice β€” checking, adjusting, finishing and caring about the result.

Our product range reflects the full breadth of what modern craftsmanship can achieve. Custom wood and acrylic engravings, laser-cut business signage, personalised trophies and corporate awards, 3D-printed moon lamps with handcrafted wooden bases, automotive badges, engraved cork coasters, framed botanical wall art, bespoke furniture and much more. Every product is made to order. Every product is made in Mauritius. And every product carries a little piece of the passion that started all of this.

  • Custom orders confirmed within 24–48 hours
  • Island-wide delivery across Mauritius
  • Trusted by corporates, schools, restaurants and five-star hotels

Looking ahead, Fabrice's vision for Artefactory goes far beyond beautiful objects. He plans to grow the workshop into a team β€” creating real employment opportunities for young people from underprivileged backgrounds across Mauritius. "I want to find talent where nobody else is looking," he says. "And give them a platform to shine." It is not just about making things. It is about building something that gives others the chance to build too. Fabrice's advice to anyone thinking about starting something of their own? "Don't think too much. Thinking too much paralyses you. When you calculate everything, you stop taking action." And his guiding principle, the one he lives by every single day: "Aim for the moon. Because even if you miss, you will land among the stars. Either way, you will be shining somewhere." That is Artefactory. Always reaching. Always making. Always shining.

Whether you are looking for a one-of-a-kind personalised gift, a full set of corporate trophies, bespoke business signage, or something completely original that you are not even sure is possible β€” Artefactory is ready to hear from you.
